Narrative Theorists: Claude Levi-Strauss’ Binary Opposition Theory
blog post explaining and illustrating Claude Levi-Strauss’ binary opposition theory.
The binary opposition theory is simple and fairly straight forward it states that there will always be tension or conflict between opposites, for example men and women, one person and a group of people, peace and war.
An example of this is in the DC universe there is a strong tension between Batman and The Joker one being a dark serious character who is always portrayed wearing dark clothing and the other being a mentally deranged character who is often portrayed wearing brighter colours and joking around.
